MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Minutes taken as read. Accepted without alterations. FINANCES LR presented statement up to Feb 2001. Subs arriving steadily. SAFETY Unconfirmed use of 60MHz in KwaZulu Natal denied by ICASA. Ultimate Hobbies supplying illegal crystals. MOP submitted to CAA for approval. ADMINISTRATION Renewals and new member applications arriving at steady rate. Large increase over same time last year. Frustration with incorrect addresses, returned articles by Post Office, etc. Club registration expected ex Meyerton, Peninsula, Cinderella Dam. File being compiled for submission to CAA. NATIONALS Entries very poor. Directly related to high entry fee, duration, costs. BS to retrieve Jack Abbot article "Nats - Quo Vadis?" for publication. Separate Nats for Scale, Aerobatics, etc. finds favour with many. No news on C/L Nats. Soaring Nats - All go for Silverton (F3B, Open, 2M). 18/19/20 May. SAMAA News March issue ready for posting. Deadline for May-issue = 20th April. All to respond. DISPLAYS Bruno delivered report. Article in S News re SAAF display. Nothing significant at this stage. To broaden pool of display fliers. AEROBATICS GAA comp Barnstormers rained out. Next event at Vaal RF, cannot be called Free State Champs. Event in Eastern Cape with results to JG for publication. WP champs scheduled for end-March. LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS 18th Feb "at" Barnstormers saw 9 fliers, no Sportsmen. 4 visiting fliers ex Nelspruit. Construction workshop in Nelspruit by A Stockwell. RMAC Warbirds Day rained out. Activity in E/Cape. LSMAA event at Vaal RF on 11 March. FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY No report. DA progress on K Nicolls proficiency document? SOARING Telephone report by JC. Nats in hand. Electrics becoming too large for MGA. Possibility of separate representation. HELICOPTERS Heli proficiencies now established. Heli event at Silverton 11 March. One Nats trophy still. Nats in planning. Imperative for rules to be formulated before SAC in July, and tested prior to Nats. SCALE Scale Masters successful, despite static judging problems. 7 participants, one out-of-town. Enjoyable braai at home of R Donaldson. 2002 event probably back to Welkom, for 15th anniversary. Request from Mossel Bay for scale rules. CONTROL LINE No report. PYLON RACING 11 Feb meeting at Howick not well attended. 2-pylon course not popular. F3D team of R vd Westhuizen, Andre Nortje, D le Roux ratified. Eric Heath not eligible. No third member necessary. COMMUNICATIONS JG to include prof tests for fixed wing and heli on Web site. Also aerobatic schedules. PDF files better. Include SARFLY disclaimer - SARFLY not official SAMAA mouthpiece. PUBLIC RELATIONS No report. MQ too busy, often away. J Godwin to approach Andre Walters. GENERAL o Air Pageant for 2003. No report. o Constitution not to be modified, but completely new. More flexible and user-friendly. Dispense with laundry lists of officer tasks. More authority in management team. Joe Coetzer to produce draft copy for committee members' input. o 35Mhz sticker for back of transmitters - in production. o Addition to FAI Judges register sent to FAI office o BS to investigate commemorative issue of SAMAA/SAARF pins + stickers o Details of AGM in May-issue. o M van Ginkel retired from Aero Club.
