
MINUTES OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE SA MODEL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION,
HELD AT SBBW ON WEDNESDAY 5th MAY 1999

WELCOME
Chairman welcomed all present. Introduced Bruno to all present.
Bruno agreed to be co-opted in position of Display Co-ordinator.
FINANCE
LR apologised for statements not being available. Position currently
at about R56 000. Last issue of SAMAA News cost R4 900.
Apparently Aero Club overpaid. BS to check with Julie.
BS to check two other payments from Aero Club - R5 000 ad-hoc grant
from Dept of Education for F4 W/C, and R2 500 development fee mentioned
by Mike van Ginkel in November. BS tabled list of expenses.
F3B team grant of R6 000 approved. Required by end-May.
ADMINISTRATION
New members for year 223. Total membership still low (1058).
Discussion on clubs refusing to belong to SAMAA.
Pressure mounting from clubs who are complying.
SAMAA to reconsider support for "rebel" clubs.
Possible discount for clubs who join all members.
Discuss at constitution meeting.
NATIONALS
Power: Klerksdorp. Overall result satisfactory.
Disciplines may separate from Nats in future.
2000 Nats to RMAC. Already approved in 1997 by previous chairman.
SAMAA NEWS
BS to contact Craig with small problems.
Info for SAC to be supplied.
AEROBATICS
F3A team selected at Nats.
Will only be ratified after final decision (end-May).
LARGE SCALE AEROBATICS
AGM on 9 May. Participated in Rosslyn and Nelspruit events.
Participation in Durban on 23rd May.
SOARING
Little competition since last report. Most activity around F3B W/C.
Bulletin 2 to be posted this week. Hotel all ok.
Small items to be finalised. TA to contact Dion le Roux.
Will supply batteries free-of-charge on loan.
Next meeting Thursday 13th May.
FUN-FLY
No report.
SCALE
Nats - 13 entries in 2 classes went well. Static position improved.
Standard good - results fair.
8 fliers qualified for team selection so far for 2000 W/C.
CONTROL LINE
Meeting on local rules successful.
Only penalties changed to encourage compliance.
Novice Stunt event in two weeks.
Next F2B team selection event is 26th June.
Vintage Stunt scheduled for 12th June.
PYLON RACING
Depleted entry at Nats - lots of fun, no crashes or mid-airs!
Interest slowly improving. Next event in Durban 11/12 June.
Magnum class dropped until interest revived.
DISPLAYS
Chairman gave short description of functions of display co-ordinator.
Bruno pledges full support. Requests support from all committee members. Address details to Craig for SAMAA News.
PROFICIENCY
No report. BS mentioned testing at Rosslyn.
Tests to be streamlined (shorter duration, more logical manoeuvre
sequence). Kimberley now very anxious to do tests.
No reply by Midwest (Potchefstroom). BS to contact DA.
COMMUNICATIONS
Commission on books sold through Amazon?
Photos of Nats events on Web page.
JG complimented on good Web page.
Better than most other aeromodelling sites worldwide.
GENERAL
Reports on CIAM meeting handed to all present.
Johan queried Jury reports. Not available at meeting.
Short report on all disciplines.
Auditors OK for audit. Lesley to monitor.
Constitution meeting scheduled soon (May - mid June).
New club premises for Rustenburg.
Small problems with para/hang gliding.
BS contacted Ken Markides to resolve.
Mosselbay (St Blaize) club registered.
