Chairman welcomed everyone present.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

No corrections – minutes taken as read.

FINANCES

Audit done, not finalised yet. Audit fee R1368 approved. BS to present 2000/2001 affiliation fee cheque to Aero Club (R7500). Loan to scale team R28 790; to be repaid before departure of team. Interest from F4W/C profits also due to Scale team, as agreed previously. BS to produce budget for discussion at next meeting.

SAFETY

DA re-faxed request to SATRA re release of all 35MHz frequencies. Established that no cement companies on 35. Communication from P Bosman re faulty crystals causing wide band of transmission. DA to do article advising on dangers of non-matched cyrstals. Bushveld fly-inn had good safety measures.

ADMINISTRATION

All in hand. BS to re-establish contact with C Perkins. Cape Town visit may result in many new members. Sunday afternoon meeting fruitful with enthusiastic response from 3 major clubs. Bruno to source good quality golf shirts to make SAMAA officers visible at flying sites.

NATIONALS

Soaring – All in hand for September 24 to 26th, at Silverton Gliding Club. JG needs obituary for Rob Street to publish.

SAMAA NEWS

May/June issue 24 pages cost R12 000 to produce and mail. Occasional large issue alright.

AEROBATICS

WP Championships 27/28 May successful, but small entry. Lowveld Championships doubtful; no details or entry form yet. Scores from EP league. Continental event first with new scoring system. Nats results to be sent to Andy van Eeden.

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS

Nine pilots at 14 May meet at RMAC. More expected at Vaal for 25 June. Concerns by Neville Wright answered by BS.

FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY

Results of round two now in. Qualifiers for FF Masters upped to 25. Two probably from Zimbabwe. D Boddington likely to visit (28/29 October). Proficiency tests done at Vaal (BS) and RAM (DA). DA to contact RMAC for proficiency tests.

SOARING

Second Postal and G2K being flown. Also Thermal League at Silverton with 24 fliers. F3J team in attendance. Question posed about recognition of towpersons in team. SAMAA has to follow FAI/CIAM team recognition. At this point only for F2C team racing and F3D pylon. Soar J in Natal at Karkloof for 16-18 June. Digby cheque ready. Address given to TA.

HELICOPTERS

Fun fly at Vaal approx 10 fliers. Site at Lafarge Quarry only for hovering & restricted access. Site at Walkerville better, good facilities, but needs development. Midrand site still pending.

SCALE

F4C team travel in hand. Entry fees sent. Bulletin 2 still not issued. Series first round flown. Eagle Sq had 4. New squadron established via Bloemfontein (Musgrave Sq.). Warbaird Day at Swartkop very successful, also from PR/publicity point of view, thanks to Gert de Klerk. Only about 30 fliers but approx. 4000 spectators. Swartkop 2000 planning okay. Richard Crapp will visit.

CONTROL LINE

Preparations for F2B team in hand. Large entry of 105, with total in all classes of 548. 9 South Africans travelling. Preparations in Stanger. Non-expert Stunt comp at NCB on 24 June. Postal 500km Goodyear race established. Some interest in Speed. What safety measures should be enforced. Full netting/fencing required.

PYLON RACING

Race meeting in Gauteng not well supported. More enthusiasm for Durban meet, possibly at Noodsberg. Pylon equipment in serious need of upgrading. RVDW to obtain quote for upgrading; committee approve in principle. Quickie kits being made available. Renewed interest in Cape Town with T Marnewick, S Langham and F van Hoogstraten.

DISPLAYS

Airshow at Kittyhawk attended by three fliers. Next big event is Airforce day in September at Swartkop. Air Pageant 2003 idea promoted by Johan Ehlers. Commemoration of 100 years of powered manned flight. (December 1903)
