WELCOME Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING

Minutes approved. Distributed via e-mail to committee, except for Lesley. LR now also available via e-mail. Marc Wolffe included.

FINANCES

Audited statements presented. Advertising income of R5 500 much better than previous year. Copies to be made for AGM. R10K paid to Aero Club for affiliation. LR to check for accounting software (SOHO – Small Office, Home Office) may be exactly what’s needed. Claims presented from JG (SAMAA News), BS (Postage, fax, e-mail, etc.), and Welkom MAC (Funfly Masters).

CONSTITUTION

JC delivered rationale on next portion of Constitution. Inclusion of clauses to protect committee against actions of individuals. BS to include in next chairman’s report, short paragraph on non-approval of committee for actions of individuals. Next portion will be distributed for comment when ready. All to study and comment.

SAFETY Safety doc being prepared by K Nicolls for next round of checking. Imperative that safety regs for gliders, control line, and helicopters also be incorporated. SAMAA is association for all model airsport disciplines. DA to pursue testing of low-priced radio sets which are alleged to operate outside bandwidth. 35MHz stickers supplied to all dealers, importers, outlets, distributors.

ADMINISTRATION

All under control. SAMAA may have to invest in computer for membership admin. Current PC five years old, several upgrades done.

NATIONALS

No offers yet for power Nats. C/L at NCB as usual. No news on proposed heli Nats. Rules (?) would have to be passed at SAC next week.

SAMAA News. At printers. In post by w/c 16 July. Closing date for next issue=20th August.

DISPLAYS. Static display at Atterbury Value Mart successful (25 aircraft). Good promo opportunity.

AEROBATICS

Gauteng event at NERF had few visitors. Events in W Cape, Free State and Eastern Cape. Scores awaited. Lowveld champs cancelled in favour of airshow. Leaves void in Gauteng. GAA topossibly arrange clinic.

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS

No comp in June. First event at RAM on 15 July, with new Basic class. TOC arrangements in hand. Only unlimited class. Nats report in SAMAA News. Large aircraft expected at RMAC, RAM, Pietersburg, Swartkop, and LOMAC events.

FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY

Third round posted, but delayed by one month. Round 2 scores not all in. Drop in partyicipation noted. Quiet time on proficiency testing. BS to travel to Kimberley for testing and goodwill visit.

SOARING

Nats report in SAMAA News, also cover pic. Karkloof F3J event successful. Aerodynamic workshop by John Monk well attended (R800 profit for F3B team). G2K Nats scheduled for 8 July at Silverton. F3B team preparations going well.

HELICOPTERS

No report. LL in Margate or Namibia. Proposal received for helicopter representative. To be decided by AGM. LL indicated preparedness to continue.

SCALE

Quiet month. New Series starts in July, to new rules. Swartkop Scale very successful with large participation on Saturday. Thanks to RMAC for flight line control. Air Force Museum collected gate fees of R18 000. Good weather.

CONTROL LINE

No report.

PYLON RACING

Event at VRF on 30 June had low turn-out, lousy weather. One Natal pilot. Next event at RMAC on ½ September. Interest in Harvard-class. RVDW to look at viability. F3D team preparing in earnest. Practice at Ngodwana, reliable flights, good equipment. Better result expected than previous event.

COMMUNICATIONS. JG to update information for internet membership applications. Otherwise quiet time.

GENERAL

• Air Pageant 2003. DA slowly progressing. Funding imperative. Document to potential sponsors ready. If master plan does not materialise, include event in Swartkop Scale.
• BS to bring SAMAA badges to next meeting for distribution.
• BS to arrange and collect FAI licences from Aero Club.
• JC gave short dissertation on merits of decentralisation of SAMAA.
• Committee to think about selling data-base. Objections from general membership expected.
