of R8000. Satisfactory result otherwise.
Audit to start soon, with draft statements in June. BS to meet with Aero Club on 9 May to
determine affiliation fee. Reimbursement from F4 team after entry fees paid.
SAFETY
BS to include paragraph on frequency control in chairman's report for next issue of SAMAA News.
Make members aware of updating own public liability, in case of frequency-related shoot-downs
involving expensive equipment.
JE raised question of large aircraft exceeding current SAMAA specs. IE to check AMA and BMFA
legislation. RAM off-shoot establishing flying site very close to provincial road. BS to action.
Voice communication causing problems on 35MHz band. DA to contact and report to SATRA

ADMINISTRATION

with Aero Club. However, St Blaize (Mossel Bay) approved. Situation could improve with
Peter Lott re-joining CAA. Member of F3J team (Dave Greer) not paid-up SAMAA member.
TA to action. (oversight by D Greer).
NATIONALS
Control line - Combat at R/C Nats very successful.
Power - Good Nats - sporting results in all disciplines. Barnstormers offer to host
Nats next 3 years.
Soaring - All in hand for September.
SAMAA NEWS
May/June issue 24 pages. SAMAA can afford bumper issues once in a while. JG offering
¼ page ads to "cottage industry" dealers. Closing date for next issue = 20th JUNE 2000!
ALL TO RESPOND WITH ARTICLES ON EACH PORTFOLIO.
AEROBATICS
Nats very successful. Minor judging complaints. WP Championships 27/28 May - joint PR
exercise to motivate W. Cape clubs to join members.
LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS
Nats had 15 entries. Larger aircraft appearing (40-43% of full-size, 140ccm engines).
Safety and noise issues to receive attention at LSMAA AGM. New season starting with
IMAC 2000 schedules.
FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY
Problem with scoring programme continues. Round two results in. Fun Fly Masters 28 and
29 October (Aerobatic Invitational = 21/22 Oct.). Foreign participation possible.
Talks with Andy van Eeden (Zim) - keen to join FF Series.

posted to D Parry (South Coast ARF).
SOARING
No formal events in April. G2K in May. Informal slope activity at Volksrust. F3J team

HELICOPTERS
No fun-fly due to poor weather. Meeting at Vaal RF showed plenty support & spectators.
Next event at Vaal on 28/5. Two heli sites identified - Walkerville and Midrand (Noordwyk).
Second site has good prospects (only 8 km from Grand Central) but strictly only heli's.
BS given coordinates. LL to continue with landowners. Chicken Hawk Fliers may have two
sites eventually.
SCALE
13 Entries at Nats - good result. F4C team selected. Ratified by committee (J Ehlers, first
reserve = TM, Glen Roberts, Humphrey le Grice, Koos Pretorius). Very competitive team.
Arrangements for W/C at Interlaken in hand. Team selection procedures for 2002 slightly
modified in weighting. Series Scale round 1 starting in May.
CONTROL LINE
Preparations for F2B team going well. 10+ supporters to France. Comments on noise of SAMAA
combat models. FAI combat even noisier!
PYLON RACING
Good Nats. Article for publication to follow. Kits becoming available for Quickie models.
Next meet scheduled for Durban mid-July. Gauteng meeting in June to maintain enthusiasm.
Negative attitude towards pylon racing at certain clubs discussed. Basically a safety concern.
Nats proved safety is of paramount importance. Pylon no more at risk than jets,
or large scale, etc.
DISPLAYS
Public display at East Rand Mall very successful. EAA display at Klerksdorp rained
out/low cloud base, resulting in only static display. Kittyhawk display on 3 June.
