MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING - SA MODEL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION,
HELD AT SBBW ON WEDNESDAY  8th NOVEMBER 2000

WELCOME	Chairman welcomed everyone present. Request for Ian (& Lesley), and Trevor to 
finish reports and leave early.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Minutes taken as read. Accepted with one alteration - Marc Quesnel was present at last 
meeting. Apology for oversight.

FINANCES
Payment finally received from Aero Club, but appears to be too much and different from 
published figure! Still no explanation for reason of payment. BS to contact J Cameron by 
letter enquiring about taxation on Pereira case. Reimbursement to French F3B team returned
 to SAMAA as "undeliverable". Insurance premium to Hoggard. Claim limit now Rm10, but 
increased excess. Questionnaire to members via SAMAA News to establish needs, special 
and general. LR presented breakdown of finances.
 
SAFETY 	Alternative insurance taken out. More contact with ICASA re 35MHz implementation 
yields no further progress.

ADMINISTRATION
Data-base administration all OK, except for small hitch. Invoices for due date 1 Jan 2001 
produced. Many W/Cape members joining.

NATIONALS
Offer from Barnstormers to host power Nats 2001. Format changes. BS to meet with Vic de Vries. 
C/L Nats over same  (Easter) weekend at NCB Pinedene.

SAMAA News
November issue at mailing house. J Ehlers to write review of book on scale gliders. 
Diary of Events to be published.
 
AEROBATICS
Successful Invitational event, only on Saturday. Possible Northern Province champs at 
Pietersburg in 2001. 

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS
TOC event - 14 entries. Rained/blown out on Sunday. No unknowns and freestyle schedules flown. 
Manual of Procedure needs updating. Social fly-in on 19 Nov. Event at VRF (28 Oct) saw six pilots with large aircraft. 
 
FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY
Successful Masters. Complaint from Niel Lombard. DA to reply. BS and DA to do proficiency 
tests at Barnstormers on 12th at 08:00.

SOARING
Thermal League at White Hills had 30 entries, 24 flying. Last leg of Postals in November.

HELICOPTERS 
Fliers not unified in efforts. LL despondent. Active boycott from Pretoria fliers. LL to 
persevere with efforts. Basic rules required. Committee to include competition organiser. 
Full support of committee to retain activity, despite apparent disinterest.
SCALE
Last round of Series in Nov. Discussion on use of gyro's. Despite outlaw in Sporting Code, 
could enhance scale flying and make landings & take-off's safer. SA Scale Masters scheduled 
for 3 & 4 March 2001 at RMAC.

CONTROL LINE
RD tendered apology for absence from Oct meeting. Discipline healthy with many sport fliers. 
Year-end function on 26th Nov. All committee members invited. VRF requested competition in 2001. Czech engine now available locally (MVVS).

PYLON RACING
Team selection at Ging on Sat/Sun 11/12 Nov. Dion le Roux active as adviser. Clinic in 
Western Cape attracted 17 participants. Race at VRF on 25/26 Nov.

DISPLAYS	
Short telephonic report ex Bruno. Little activity. 

COMMUNICATIONS
Hits on Web site increasing. Pics of Fun Fly Masters already posted.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
Meeting between BS and MQ on 13th Oct. First contact with dealers, to promote SAMAA with 
customers.

GENERAL
• Committee members to pursue idea of re-structuring SAMAA, for more representation in other 
  areas (like AMA, BMFA, and others). WPAA in process of being resurrected.
• Colours award ceremony - all in hand.
• Air Pageant for 2003. D Armitage accepted offer as project leader. Imperative that sponsor 
		be found. All types catered for. Timing for May 2003. Could even do "road show" in other 
  centres. DA to devise initial plan.
• Possible visit by Windy Urtnowski - C/L ace, for series of workshops.
• Commercial model aviation magazine by Nicolaj Jensen. No further details.
•  Club matters - PRF likely to re-locate end Dec.
