MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Minutes approved. Distributed via e-mail to committee, and posted to Russell and Lesley.
FINANCES
Healthy situation at financial year-end. Auditors will have prelim report ready for June meeting. LR to check on SAMAA News debtors with JG. Insurance excess paid for K Selby claim. R70K in investment account. JE to check on D Cranke reimbursement for Nats.
CONSTITUTION
JC presented draft. SAMAA route needs re-think. AGM attendance poor, with power vested in AGM, and possible over-control by proxy votes. Power should be vested in management committee. Many new ideas, but not short-term solution. More work and more thought necessary by all.
SAFETY Safety doc draft presented. All committee members to carefully study and note changes. Must be returned to JE at June meeting.
ADMINISTRATION
Many small insurance questions on grey areas. Steve Filby to be invited to next meeting, to take questions and source answers from insurers. Admin all under control.
NATIONALS
Overall satisfactory result but individual problem areas: prizegivings, lack of aerobatic judges, lack of experienced CD, no overal CD to accept responsibility, weather delays, low entries, high entry fee, duration, outsourcing of catering. Scale successful, with good judging results and realistic scores. Aerobatics had bad flier/judge rotation, scoring problems, poor control. Pylon reasonably good, even for small entry. Lack of cooperation from aerobatics disappointed. Scale aerobatics good, but low entry. Finances barely successful for club. Trade tent under-subscribed for size.
CL Nats very successful, but combat disappointing. F2B stunt most interesting/successful, and T/R had better than expected entry (even if only at Nats). Didier Malochet (La Reunion) enjoyed participation and visit to SA.
Soaring Nats all in hand for Silverton Gliding Club. Good planning..
SAMAA News. No report, but all in hand.
DISPLAYS. Little to report. Shirt samples shown. To obtain quote from supplier. Sizes taken.
AEROBATICS
Judges' briefing at Nats proved unsuccessful - many inconsistencies during Nats. EP Champs in June. 2001 w/c team ratified as Andre Stockwell, Pierre Marais, and Rui Martins. Reserves C Harris, and D Potgieter. Team grant already paid.
LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS
RMAC on 13 May. Change to new IMAC schedules. AGM on 20 May. Airshow at Rosslyn on 2 June, and RMAC event will see many large a/c. So too Swartkop Scale.
FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY
Quiet at present, with second round posted to clubs/regions. Less interest country-wide. DA still reviewing K Nicolls proficiency document - to revert soonest.
SOARING
JC thanks SAMAA for ad-hoc donation for Nats. F3B team in full practice. Few details to be finalised (visas, nat. colours). G2K event very popular (82 participants), with MGA-sponsored bungees.
HELICOPTERS
Positive comments on proficiency system, but top levels too tough. Fun-fly at NERF poorly supported. LL comments on structural failures of heli's. To supply full facts to BS. LL reports no interest in Heli Nationals (only Carl Grobler).
SCALE
New Series starting in May. Rules distributed, with some changes. Web site should be able to have link to rules.
CONTROL LINE
Nats was first team selection event for F2B. Art Adamisin cup on 12 May is second. Post Nats lull in activities. Vintage Stunt event in June at NCB.
PYLON RACING
Lots of post-Nats enthusiasm. Meet in June if gap in calendar. Team grant paid. Preparations for w/c good. Equipment supply in OZ solved (36MHz).
COMMUNICATIONS. No report
PUBLIC RELATIONS. No report. Bruno S to contact MQ.
GENERAL
Air Pageant for 2003. Sponsor document now completed. DA to confirm Swartkop availability. Event in Lowveld included, also Eastern Cape.
Airshow at Rosslyn AM on 2 June.
CIAM meeting docs in progress. Report at June meeting.
SAMAA/SAARF pins + stickers to be produced. BS to source suppliers.
Details of AGM published in May-issue.
Question of SAMAA News being e-mailed to members. Some benefits, but time consuming, and at cost to member. Continue with printed version. Questionnaire?
