SAMAA NEWS

JG complimented on good issue. Well balanced with interesting articles. Next issue due out mid-March. Articles needed by 20th February. ALL TO RESPOND!

AEROBATICS

Good NW Championships. Details of WP Champs expected. EP Champs planned for June. Free State event could materialise. Interest high at present – may see large entry at Nats.

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS

Meeting of 16th Jan rained out. Successful event on 30th Jan with 12 fliers. More large aircraft (40%+) with 140ccm engines. Flying and building skills improving. Calendar of events finalised and to be published in SAMAA News. Next event is 20th Feb at Barnstormers.

FUN FLYING

First round posted to 44 clubs. Invoice received from Welkom. Contact with foreign pilots with view to invitation to Fun Fly Masters (10th Anniversary). Moved to end-October.

SOARING

1999 Postals won by Craig G., thermal league by MMS. Both events start in Feb for 2000. Team chosen for Corfu F3J. Craig & Michelle Goodrum, Dave Greer, Manager Mark Stockton. No junior this time. BS queried manager’s involvement/commitment. New G2K class proving popular, 2-channel set-up, no moving surfaces on main wing, no winches. Bungee supplied and refunded after first comp. F3B team selection (for Prague 2001) unaltered. Reports of 1999 F3B W/C very complimentary. Well CD’d.

PROFICIENCIES

Tests at JOMAC cancelled and at RAM postponed. More patches to be made. BS to do certificates to accompany proficiency grades. LL and DA to meet and discuss heli proficiency.

HELICOPTERS

Fun fly at JOMAC, but committee revert to no heli flying at club. Imperative for heli-only club somewhere on Reef. Interested fliers to start practicing very demanding F3C schedule.

SCALE

Series completed, last event rained out. Masters in hand, all personnel contacted. Venue OK. SAMAA okay with 6th May Miniature Warbirds Day, organised by Gert de Klerk.

CONTROL LINE

Enquiries prove that SAMAA channels working well. Team to W/C France ratified. Junior in F2B event approved by committee (Jade Rowland). T/M is Graham Swallow, assisted by R Dugmore.

PYLON RACING

Ging event called off. Practice instead. Some interest for Nats. High technology responsible for worldwide "demise" of pylon racing. Meeting of Dion le Roux, BS and RVDW to discuss team selection, colours for callers and new class (Q Midget). Selection process modified and circulated to all. NSC will recognise mechanic/caller as part of team, if recognised by FAI.

DISPLAYS

Little activity in January. Article for publication to JG. BS to continue with presentation to UCB.

COMMUNICATIONS

SAMAA web-page updated every weekend. Little activity in beginning of year.
