MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING - SA MODEL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION, HELD AT SBBW 
ON WEDNESDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2000.

WELCOME
Chairman welcomed everyone present. 

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
Minutes taken as read. Accepted without alteration.

FINANCES
LR presented breakdown of finances. 32-day call a/c. currently at R39K, with further R30K 
invested or surplus funds. Interest from Scale W/C amounts to R51000, to F4 team. No written
 response from J Cameron re cost recovery of Pereira case. Aero Club has not yet transferred
 money to SAMAA's a/c. BS to prompt Julie at AeC. SAMAA banners received, one outstanding.

SAFETY
Excess for VRF claim exceeds claim value. SAMAA cannot cover costs. Suggestion that member's 
own public liability insurance be contacted. DA to supply Johan with safety rules.

ADMINISTRATION
All in hand. 35MHz matter being stalled by ICASA. Clover still operating on 35MHz. Query 
raised about pest control unit operating on 30-60MHz. Localised, low output; no danger to R/C. 
BS to supply letter to PRF regarding club registration status.

NATIONALS
Soaring Nats all under control. No illegal frequencies. BS to request opening of other spots, 
temporarily. Power Nats meeting with Vic de Vries still o/s.

SAMAA NEWS
September issue in post today. Advertising rates increased by 50%.

AEROBATICS
Gauteng event at White Hills low entry. All in hand for Gauteng Championships, end-Sept. 
Qualifiers for SA Invitational known soon after. Request for Bushveld Championships at 
Pietersburg. Successful Euro Champs, good flying standard.

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS
Event at RMAC on 20 August had 13 fliers. New TOC Known schedules flown. Small large a/c 
representation at LOMAC Airshow.

FUN FLYING & PROFICIENC	
Invites sent for Masters 28/29 October; 10th anniversary. Possible participation by Bill 
Michie ex UK. Welkom Holiday Inn as HQ. More proficiency tests done at Nelspruit. Badges 
for Mossel Bay and VRF not received. Re-sent by DA.

SOARING
Quiet month for soaring. Locally produced glider (Sangoma) popular world-wide.

HELICOPTERS
Walkerville up and going. Needs more support. LL to structure discipline; committee with 
secretary, PRO, competition organiser, chairman, etc. Introduce basic manoeuvre schedules, 
balance between hover and flying.

SCALE
JE delivered report on F4 W/C. Hot, humid days. Good organisation, except slow scores. 
Static has three SA in top 11, overall - three in top 15. Many crashes. Very good result 
for SA team. Congratulations! Series scores for July slow in arriving.
   
CONTROL LINE
Query from RD regarding SA participation in European Championship. Only possible when 
organisers have vacancies. P Lott performed good job at W/C. SAMAA needs to look at CD/Judges 
recognition from Aero Club. Demo event at Pioneer Car Museum good but too crowded for safety. 
VSC event good. Fun Day planned for 14th Oct. Question on team uniforms. Goodyear Racing 
rules not to compromise safety.

PYLON RACING
Event at RMAC on Sat 2 September was windy. No Natal participants. Quickie classes only 
(7 Std and 4 S/Std.). Next event for either Barnstormers or Vaal, end October. 
Team Trials at Zululand Polo Fields (Ging) on 11/12 November, with 6 interested participants.

DISPLAYS 
Static display at SAAF 80th Birthday event, Waterkloof, 6/7/8 Sept. successful. Display at
 Sacred Heart College on 30 September with glider, fun fly, heli, and possibly blimp.

COMMUNICATIONS
On-line membership application to be extended with more details. Visits to Web site increasing.

PUBLIC RELATIONS
No report. PRO in Canada.

GENERAL
* Committee to pursue idea of re-structuring SAMAA, for more representation in other areas 
(like AMA, BMFA, and others).
* Approval for colours award ceremony, at Idle Winds, 25 November. Invitations sent to Allan 
Platt, John Brink, Roy Spavins (latter accepted).
* Air Pageant for 2003. Need to identify project leader. Sponsor to be sought.
* Discussion at next meeting re chairman's participation at December Bureau meeting.
* Andre Beukes to request details on medical claims. Liaise with Frans v Hoogstraten/Johan 
Ehlers, re cover for crashes involving stationary aircraft in pit area.
