MINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING - SA MODEL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION, HELD AT SBBW ON WEDNESDAY 12th JANUARY 2000.

WELCOME

Chairman welcomed those few present. Hopes that committee members will tackle tasks with enthusiasm in new year.

FINANCES

Lesley presented statements – concern from chair that too much reserve being accumulated. Several projects to be completed before financial year-end (March). Trevor to report at next meeting on financial situation of F3B event. Insurance premium paid (included broker’s commission). Reimbursement of R75 approved for Bruno (Kittyhawk Airshow).

ADMINISTRATION

Just under 538 new members for year 1999. PR campaign with dealers and clubs to attract more members. Still no news from Chris Perkins re mods to membership programme. Claim procedure may need attention (SAMAA person will be appointed…etc). BS to contact Keith Nicholls with view to joining constitution working group.

NATIONALS

Power Nats – Basic details discussed and established. Entry fee R200, inclusive of banquet ticket. 4 days only (21 to 24 April 2000). Two flight areas in morning – Scale between 15 and 20 entries) in same position as for F4 W/C, and Large Scale (up to 20 pilots) in-field in front of main tower. May have to shift flight line for sun. Pylon over mid-day break (about 2,5 hours each day). Schedule quietest classes for Sunday. Aerobatics (max 60 entries) on two flight lines, one to left of scale position and one in front of main tower. Catering by Friends of the Air Force, also banquet. Banquet possibly in one of the hangars for good ambience. Johan to source judges for scale (separate panel of static judges for SOS, self and two others). BS to propose aerobatic panels, Ian L/S. Start identifying key personnel now. No news from DA on requests to Air Force. ENTIRE COMMITTEE TO GET INVOLVED!

SAMAA NEWS

John’s first issue ready for printers. Labels supplied. Should be out end Jan. ARTICLES NEEDED! Layout very good, clean and elegant – should restore image and attract dealers to advertise.

AEROBATICS

Calendar finalized for most domestic events. Full programme includes Lowveld Champs, Nelspruit. BS invited as juror to 2 Continental Champs and IAM Japan. Formally asked to take over CIAMF3A sub-committee. Will at future meeting discuss financial implications if/of SAMAA funding Bureau member.

LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS

All in hand, as reported prior to meeting. Happy Birthday, Ian.

FUN FLYING

No report.

SOARING

No report. Letter received from D Cranke. Trevor to comment. Copy to Johan at next meeting.

PROFICIENCIES

No report from delegate. BS tested fliers at Midwest, Potch.

HELICOPTERS

No report.

SCALE

Last round of Series in Jan. Masters at Swartkop in hand. Glen will organise. BS as CD. Judges arranged by JE. Jan Coetzee invited as static judge to W/C 2000 Interlaken. SA maintaining high profile in international competitions.

CONTROL LINE

Peter Lott appointed as judge for F2B world champs in France.

PYLON RACING

Barnstormers event renewed interest in Gauteng. Event scheduled for Feb in Natal. Possible event at Vaal RF. BS to meet with RVDW and Dion le Roux to discuss team selection for 2001 (Before end Jan).

DISPLAYS

Kittyhawk event successful, good exposure. Presentation to Cricket Board for exposure at matches. BS supplied list of all members’ telephone numbers.

COMMUNICATIONS

Still looking at possibility of SAMAA News on Website. Most of 1999 items removed/updated on Web page. Layout to be revised. BMFA accident case posted for information.
