A full year with lots of activity and projects. Special welcome to Joe Coetzer, the newly appointed soaring delegate. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Two corrections to minutes: Series scale was last event for 2000. January meeting date shown as year 2000. Minutes taken as read. Accepted with alterations. FINANCES LR presented breakdown of finances. Healthy situation with major portion of subs still to arrive. SAFETY Manual of Procedures needs updating. J Ehlers and safety working group to recommend changes. Assemble safety rules from other associations as guide. BS meeting with three ICASA personnel members yields no surprises. Confirmation that 60MHz will be available up to October 2005, and possibly beyond. Several channels on 35MHz to become available March 2001 (not likely, given all the previous broken promises). VRF incident resolved. ADMINISTRATION Invoices for 1 Jan 2001 due date posted. Many individuals request individual invoice rather than bulk posting to club secretaries. Bar chart of membership increase shown. Current total 1701 is highest in recent times. New members joining in 2000 were 771. No news on Benoni Lake club registration. Club registration ex Kroonstad received. Data-base administration all OK, except for small hitch. Invoices for due date 1 Jan 2001 produced. Many W/Cape members joining. Aero Club on shaky ground. Lack of financial control and poor admin. SAMAA decision to withdraw in 1997 vindicated. NATIONALS Entry form in next SAMAA News. Organising committee? SAMAA not committed to bridging finance, but approachable. Club funds surely available, plus entry fees. Some complaints about format. BS to write VDV. C/L Nats not finalised yet. Soaring Nats - Silverton (F3B, Open, 2M). No F3J. SAMAA NEWS January issue at printer. Format changed subtly. Labels supplied. Material deadline for next issue ..........20 FEBRUARY 2001!! All to submit articles. AEROBATICS Possibility of Lowveld Champs, and Northern Prov champs. Unhappiness from Free State about diary entry of Free State champs at Vaal RF. North West early February. WP Champs in March. LARGE AIRCRAFT AND SCALE AEROBATICS Workshop on 21 Jan "at" Benoni RF. Judging clinic. Regular monthly events for rest of year. Manual of Procedure needs updating (specifically regarding large aircraft specs). FUN FLYING & PROFICIENCY Complaint from Niel Lombard resolved. Proficiency status for gliders, heli's, C/L? Proficiency query ex D Potgieter. SOARING Welcome to Joe Coetzer. Little to report at this early stage. Joe to join constitution working group (Johan, John, Roston, Bob, Joe). HELICOPTERS Lance on vacation. No report. Plans for heli Nats in November. SCALE Quiet time. Last round of Series in Jan. SA Masters on 3/4 March "at" RMAC. CONTROL LINE Quiet at beginning of year. Sport flying active. Team selection starting for 2002 W/C. Peter Lott moving to S Arabia. Open class speed creates controversy with disparity in rules. Visit by Bob Masters created new interest in East London. PYLON RACING Plenty of activity. 6 participant at Team selection at Ging. Race at VRF on 25/26 Nov successful. RVDW made visit to Cape Town in December, lots of activity. Race meet in Howick on 10/11 Feb. DISPLAYS BS to try to obtain list of likely displays during year, to help planning. COMMUNICATIONS Quiet time over holidays. JG to tidy up web site. PUBLIC RELATIONS No report. GENERAL * Committee members to pursue idea of re-structuring SAMAA, for more representation in other areas (like AMA, BMFA, and others). WPAA resurrected. M Wolffe appointed as W/Cape delegate to handle/promote SAMAA affairs. * Air Pageant for 2003. Road shows "at" Ysterplaat, Swartkop. * Insurance write-up from Steve Filby needed for publication (BS). * 35Mhz sticker for back of transmitters - BS to design. * Interference report 35,150. Details? Illegal 35 freg displayed on RMAC peg board (and used). * Correspondence ex Barberton Town Council, for flying meetings.
