Some alternative directions to the site given by Dave Greer
This route is only 1.6km shorter but seems to save half the time!
Turn off the N3 at the Westmead/Marianhill turnoff and aim for Marianhill as
before - set odo to zero.
1. At 5.6 km turn right at robot (just a couple of hundred metres before the
old turnoff) onto the Dasenburg / Old Richmond road. Engen Garage is on your
right. Stay on tar road all the way down into the valley.
2. At the bottom of the valley you cross a bridge and then almost immediately
turn off left at 10.3km (from N3). There is a little shanty shop on the inside
and a Coke shop on your outside of the turn. The tar drops down over another
bridge with some subsidence on the edge and immediately turns into a pretty
good dirt road. Do not be tempted to turn off this road (looks better down left
but is not).
3. Follow the dirt road which is ok but does have severe erosion on the sides
(note the drawing is straight although the road gently snakes), until 19.1km
(from N3) where you turn left just past Mkhize's Store which is on your right.
4. Proceed reasonably carefully up the back of Fudu until the intersection at
the top at 21.6km (from N3). The new road is not as rural friendly as the old
but a lot quicker, again though, travel in convoy.
NOTE THAT THE OLD ROAD IS STILL ACCESSIBLE ALTHOUGH THE LOW BRIDGE IS SLIGHTLY
UNDER WATER
